Overview
Focal – Focus & Blocking ("Focal," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information Focal collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Focal is published by Vista Wholesale Central LLC.
Information we collect
If you create an account or sign in with Apple, Google, or email, we collect your name and email address to identify your account and keep your subscription in sync across your devices. When you subscribe, Apple processes your payment and our subscription provider, RevenueCat, records your subscription status. If you enter a creator code, we store which creator referred you. Your focus goals, session history, tasks, schedules, saved places, and app-blocking choices are stored on your device.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
If you turn it on, Focal saves your completed focus sessions to Apple Health as Mindful Minutes. Focal only writes this data; it never reads any data from Apple Health. Health data is not sent to our servers, is not shared with third parties, and is not used for advertising or marketing. You can turn this off at any time in Focal's Settings or in the Health app under Sharing → Apps → Focal.
Location
If you allow it, Focal uses your location to block your chosen apps automatically when you arrive at a place where you focus, such as a library, gym, or cafe, and to unblock them when you leave. Location is processed on your device. When you stay somewhere for a few minutes, Focal may ask Apple Maps what kind of place it is so it can ask whether you want to block apps there. Your saved places stay on your device. We do not send your location to our servers, do not keep a history of where you go, and do not share your location with third parties. You can change or turn off location access at any time in iOS Settings → Focal → Location.
Screen Time and app usage
Focal uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) to block the apps and websites you choose. Apple keeps the apps you select private: Focal receives opaque identifiers, not app names or usage history. We do not collect, store, or transmit which apps you use or your Screen Time data.
Camera and photos
If you choose to add a photo to a shareable stats image, Focal uses the camera or your photo library to get that one photo. It stays on your device and is only shared if you choose to share the image. Focal does not browse or upload your photo library.
Notifications and emails
Focal sends notifications on your device, such as session reminders and arrival prompts. If you allow notifications, we also store a device token with our backend so we can tell you about new versions of Focal. If you have an account, we may email you about new features; you can turn this off in Settings → New feature emails or with the unsubscribe link in any email.
Where your data is stored
Account information (your name, email, an account ID, subscription status, notification token, and email preference) is stored securely with our backend provider, Supabase. Subscription status is also handled by Apple and RevenueCat. Your everyday focus data, saved places, and blocking choices stay on your device.
Analytics and diagnostics
To understand how Focal is used and keep it reliable, we collect anonymous usage events (for example, that a focus session started or finished) through PostHog, linked to an anonymous ID rather than your name or email. We collect crash and diagnostic reports through Sentry, used only to find and fix bugs. We do not use advertising trackers and do not track you across other apps or websites.
Third-party services
Focal relies on a small number of providers, each of which only processes the data needed for its service: Apple (Sign in with Apple, in-app purchases, Screen Time, Apple Health, Apple Maps, notifications), Google (Sign in with Google), Supabase (account storage), RevenueCat (subscriptions), PostHog (anonymous analytics), Sentry (crash reporting), and our email provider (product update emails). We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data for anyone else's marketing.
Deleting your account and data
You can permanently delete your account at any time in Focal from Settings → My Account → Delete account, which removes your account and its associated data from our backend. Deleting the Focal app removes the data stored on your device. Apple Health entries Focal wrote can be deleted in the Health app. An active subscription must be cancelled separately in your Apple ID settings.
Data security
Data is sent over encrypted connections and stored with providers that use industry-standard security. Data kept on your device is protected by your device's built-in security.
Children's privacy
Focal does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will appear on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
